    Indoor to Outdoor Training

One of the great things about litter box training is that it can be used as a temporary tool to help transition your puppy to outdoor potty training. In fact, once your Goldendoodle is crate trained and around 8 weeks old, they are usually ready to start going outside. However, you can still use the litter box as a helpful step in the process. For example, you can place a box near the door you will be using to take your puppy outside. This will help your puppy to associate that particular spot with going potty and will make the transition to outdoor training much smoother.

Another helpful tip is to place a few pellets outside in the area where you want your puppy to go potty. This can be especially useful during the first week or so of training. By doing this, your puppy will begin to recognize the scent of the pellets and associate it with going potty. This can help to encourage them to go in the right spot and avoid any accidents inside your home.

Overall, litter box training Goldendoodles can be a great option for those who want to instill good habits in their puppies from a young age. It is a simple and effective way to keep your home clean and free of accidents, while also teaching your puppy where they should go potty.

Remember housetraining your puppy requires persistence, patience, and praise. With that being said, goldendoodles are natural people pleasers and are also highly intelligent. As a result, they’re quick to housetrain and ideal dogs for first-time pet owners.

However, you can help speed up the housetraining process by establishing strict potty-training guidelines. Guidelines should include commands, designated spots, and praise. Before you take your puppy out, say something like, “Let’s go potty” then hit their paw to their potty bells.

When outside, take it to the designated defecation area and say “Go potty.” Only when your pup has gone, praise it for a job well done.

It’s important to note that dogs are creatures of habit. They like to do the same activities at the same time daily.

Until your pup can communicate with you regarding its need to go, take it out every half hour. As soon as it wakes up, right after eating or drinking, anytime your dog comes out of the crate ,after being physically active and the last thing at night. Figure out your dog’s needs and devise a schedule based on those. Understanding how long your puppy can hold it helps. Most puppies can hold their bladders for one hour for every month they are up to eight months of age.

    We begin with Litterbox Training

Litter box training Goldendoodles may seem like an unusual idea, but it can actually be a very practical and effective way to teach your puppy where they should go potty. In fact, many breeders use this method to instill good habits in their puppies from a very young age. It can also be a great option for those who live in apartments or other small spaces. We begin litter training at four weeks of age. It is a natural instinct for the mom to push the pups off of their bedding to go potty, this helps with the training process.

We use long, narrow plastic trays. A thin layer of pine pellets made for horse stalls is then added to cover the bottom of the pan and a metal grate is placed on top. These pellets can be purchased at Tractor Supply Stores. When the puppies urinate on the pellets, they turn to powder, which is easily scooped out as needed. The stool is simply picked up with a plastic bag, tied shut, and discarded.

    Grooming

Are you ready to bring home your brand new Goldendoodle puppy and need some help learning how to take care of them?

Your puppy will probably be ready for its first hair cut at 4-6 months of age

    At home Goldendoodle Grooming Tips:

    1. Brush for at least 5-10 minutes EVERY day using a slicker brush (shown below) to keep fur free of mats and tangles. Use a dry/waterless shampoo to freshen up every few days if needed.
    2. Once a week, use a de-matting tool and a detangling spray to get out the tougher knots so they don’t become a hassle down the road.
    3. Bathe, blow dry, and brush once a month to thoroughly cleanse your golden doodle. Make sure to use a high-quality dog shampoo like some of the ones listed below.
    4. Every 8 to 10 weeks, take your doodle into a professional grooming salon for a haircut, nail, ear, and paw pad trim. If you’ve been keeping up with your daily/weekly grooming at home, this haircut will be a breeze and may not be needed as often.
